MOCA is best known for its MOCAheart, a very thin device that can measure your heart function and your blood oxygen level. Now the company is jumping into the crowded space of wireless blood pressure monitors, joining Philips, iHeath, Withings, Qardio, and a number of others. The newly announced MOCACuff is a sleek and very portable blood pressure cuff that fits comfortably on your wrist. It displays your blood pressure and pule. It also has an indicator to show you how your blood pressure stacks up in comparison to accepted “normal” readings. MOCA says the device is medically accurate and the device is “FDA cleared,” as opposed to be FDA approved.
The MOCACuff is well designed, with a big readable screen. It pairs easily with the MocaCare app for iOS and Android. The app allows you to sync your pressures and will provide a visual record including trends. You can share the information with your care providers, caregivers, and family. This is a step ahead of some competitors, such as the Philips connected system, which doesn’t have that kind of connectivity. One of the features that I like is that it uses traditional “AAA” batteries. While you do have to replace them, I have found with rechargeable devices I need to worry after every few uses that they will run out of juice. These last a long longer.
If you have been a user of the first MOCACare device, the MOCAheart, you know that while that very small heart monitor gives you a report card on your qualitative well-being, it does not provide any quantifiable actionable data, a major shortcoming. But the MOCACuff does give you hard numbers so you can take them to your provider.
Price will be $69, though you can get if from their website at a pre-order price of $49.
