900 openWhat Is It? – The Lenovo 900 Yoga is the company’s latest flagship hybrid computer, combining laptop, tablet, tent, and stand modes in a sleek and stylish package with almost all the bells and whistles I’d hope to see in a laptop.  It is the successor to the Yoga 3 Pro, which quickly became our favorite just a year ago.  The Yoga 900 has a 13.3″ screen with a stunning QHD 3200 x 1800 display.  It retains the 900 hingeinnovative watchband-style hinge that is both stylish and practical, allowing the machine to almost fold flat as a tablet (though admittedly a thick one). It has JBL speakers tuned up with a Dolby home theater system.  It gets high marks for battery life (up to 9 hours).

The 900 comes with a full complement of ports.  There are two USB 3.0 ports and one of those new-fangled USB reversible type “C” ports for forward looking connectivity and video out (so no HDMI port).  There’s a USB 2.0 port that also serves as the power input.  There’s a full sized SD card reader and a combination microphone and headphone jack.

900 tabletIf you’re interested in what’s under the hood, the Yoga 900 starts at the top when it comes to a processor and doesn’t step down.  Inside is an Intel 6th generation core i7 which will speed you through almost any task.  It comes with a standard 256 GB solid state hard drive and you can get it with 512GB, a big offering on a laptop.

Is It 50+ Friendly? – I like the sharp display, the form factor, and the sound quality.  It is fast and was very easy to setup.  No complaints here.  Lenovo prides itself on the usability of its keyboard, and I found the typing experience very smooth.  What’s more, while I’ve had trouble with the touchpads on some other laptops because they were either too sensitive or not sensitive enough, the feel of the pad on the Yoga 900 was just right.

900 tentFrustration Factor? – While I found absolutely nothing frustrating about the Yoga 900, I can only hope Lenovo will come out with exactly the same machine in either a 14″ or 15″ screen size for those of us with diminished eyesight.

Is It Worth The Money? – This machine has a premium build, premium features, and sells for a reasonable, though not cheap price, just about $1200 on Amazon.com.  Is It worth the money?  Absolutely.  I’ve been traveling with it for a couple of weeks now and it does everything I’ve asked of it, and it looks really good to boot.
